Amazon experienced a rare failure when the company’s Fire Phone didn’t go well with the consumers. However, according to latest reports, it seems that the company is going to take another shot at the smartphone market by targeting budget oriented consumers.
The latest report of Amazon’s venture into smartphone market comes from NDTV’s Gadget 360 which claimed that the company is targeting the emerging markets like India. The phone, reportedly branded ‘Ice’ will aim to fix the problems faced by the first fire phone which had a poor sales figure.
If you are familiar with the Fire Phone, then you might already be familiar with the reasons it failed to capture audiences. At the time, it had a steep price tag along with exclusivity to AT&T. Moreover, the smartphone featured a weird operating system as the customers couldn’t use different services offered by Google. It seems that Amazon learned its lesson from the first attempt at smartphone market as the report from NDTV has mentioned that Amazon is planning on embracing all the services offered by Google and targeting a different set of audiences.
Reportedly, the smartphone will feature standard specifications for consumers in India. For example, the smartphone is rumored to contain a Snapdragon 435 process, 2 GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a solid screen size. Amazon is set to launch the smartphone for less than $100 which means, consumers will get decent value for their money with the upcoming smartphone.
If the report is indeed true, then Amazon might have a sloid opportunity this time around in the emerging markets. With Google trying to reach more audiences across the globe, the upcoming smartphone from Amazon will serve both companies pretty well.
