Boeing had a disappointing year with 2019 as a new flaw grounded the company’s 737 Max planes. And now, the company has revealed that it has successfully tested the world’s twin-engine jet.
In case you aren’t aware, the Boeing 777X is the world’s largest twin-engine jet that measures 252 feet long and over 235 feet across when its wingtips have been extended for flight. Boeing said that during the test, the plane flew around the Washington state area for 3 hours and 51 minutes before successfully landing. According to Boeing, the plane used GE9X engines that are capable of providing 100,000 pounds of thrust force each. Moreover, the engines will provide 10 percent more fuel efficiency compared to the current engines.
Talking about the successful tests, Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes said, “Our Boeing team has taken the most successful twin-aisle jet of all time and made it even more efficient, more capable and more comfortable for all. Today’s safe first flight of the 777X is a tribute to the years of hard work and dedication from our teammates, our suppliers and our community partners in Washington state and across the globe.”
Boeing also revealed that its first of four dedicated 777-9 flight test airplanes, WH001 will undergo several checks before resuming the tests in the coming days. You should note that the 777X planes won’t go into service until next year. At the moment, Boeing has received 340 orders and commitments from several high-profile airlines including ANA, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.
